Did you follow the whole Ann Romney–Hilary Rosen megillah last week?
When I was growing up, women stayed home because there was no choice. Today society offers a plethora of choices, none of them good. Mothers and fathers are conflicted about juggling careers and children because it is very complicated, expensive and challenging to supply all of a family’s basic needs.
No parent feels good about the choice between working over parenting. No parent wants to miss that little league game, nighttime story or sitting down at the family dinner. No parent can find a surrogate when it comes to caring for the needs of a sick or special needs child or celebrating a birthday or holiday.
Do Mitt and Ann Romney understand the plight of today’s hard working parents? I don’t think so.
